You might think a beauty contest for men would involve less preening than for their female counterparts.

But 50 Mr World contestants managed to get through 2,400 eggs between them as part of their high-protein diets while staying in Maidstone.

Some of the world’s most handsome men spent two weeks staying at the Tudor Park Marriott Hotel in Bearsted while battling it out for the title, and were also filmed for a six-part television series - to be aired in the New Year.

Mr England – also known as 20-year-old music student Roland Johnson – said: “It’s been hard to be strict with the “all you can eat” buffet every evening, so the gym and pool have been exactly what we needed.”

The boys took part in challenges including a golf tournament, a penalty shoot-out and used the luxury gym and pool daily to ensure they were in peak condition.

The hotel had to order in 1,200 extra eggs a week to keep up with their high protein, low fat diets.

General manager Russel Storey said: “It has been a pleasure to host this group of delightful young men and very exciting for the hotel’s staff to be part of this event.”

The final will take place later today at the Kent Event Centre at Detling, hosted by Myleene Klass.
