Young Rhys Mateer thought he was doing the right thing when he showed his mother what he had been getting up to at school.

But she was left fuming when the 10-year old produced copies of explicit sexual and violent images downloaded from a classroom computer.

The Year 6 boy was in the IT suite at St Helen’s Primary, Cliffe, with a supervising teacher nearby, when he tapped the word porn into an internet search engine.

He then printed out the pictures and popped them in his school bag to take home.

The school has admitted problems with software which is meant to block access to adult sites. It has now banned online access for pupils until the problem is fixed.

Mum Kerry, said:“I’m appalled, angry and scared. You place your trust with the school to look after your children and don’t expect to have to be worrying about them when they’re there.

“I was forced to sit Rhys down and to speak to him about issues he shouldn’t know about at his age.”

She is now considering removing her son from the school over the incident.

A Medway Council spokesman, said: "Medway Council takes the safety of all children very seriously in their homes, schools and in the wider community.

"As soon as the head teacher realised that an inappropriate image had been printed she told staff immediately that pupils could not use the IT suite and has pledged that the it will remain closed until she is completely happy that her pupils can safely use it again."
