Vauxhall Mokka buyers can now combine a turbocharged petrol engine with front-wheel drive for the first time.

Previously, the 1.4-litre 138bhp engine was only available with four-wheel drive but the new version offers lower emissions for drivers who won’t need the extra traction.

The new front-wheel drive configuration lets the chunky Mokka sub-compact SUV record fuel economy of 47.9mpg, with emissions rated at 139g/km. That compares to 44.1mpg and 149g/km for the four-wheel drive.

As standard the new version comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, but there is also a six-speed automatic available for an additional cost.

New infotainment systems have been made optional on the Mokka at the same time as the launch of the new drivetrain variant. A high-resolution seven-inch colour touch-screen display uses a new, intuitive media interface and displays the visual feed from the – also optional – reversing camera.

Upgraded satellite navigation can also now be ordered with the Mokka. Europe-wide mapping is standard and it can be updated via the USB port.

Other new options include 19-inch wheels and a bold exterior paint choice called Orange Rock metallic. All the updates and improvements are available to order now at Vauxhall dealers.
