Ostrich, camel...anyone for school dinners?

Ostrich is on the menu at

by Ruth Banks.

Forget lumpy custard and mushy carrots. School dinners at one
Maidstone school have taken an exotic turn – with frogs’ legs,
crocodile and camel on the menu.

Catering staff at the Newline Learning Academy in Loose near
Maidstone have served up a different dish every week – giving
students an opportunity to try unusual meats they might not find in
the shops.

Catering manager Thierry Leroy said: “Obviously this kind of
meat is very expensive, so it’s just a taster not a full meal.

“We try to do something fun, to push the students’ curiosity and
get them to try something new.”

We visited the school, on a non-uniform day, to check it
out.
