Two wheels proved just as good as four when a man was arrested by two Thanet police officers on mountain bikes.

PCs Andrew Rogers and Simon Clarke pedalled to a property in Waterloo Place, Ramsgate, following reports of a break in at 2pm on Friday, June 11.

They searched the building and arrested a 26-year-old man from Margate.

He has been bailed until Friday, July 2, pending further police inquiries.

Sgt Guy Burrows, of the response team based at Margate police station, said: "The use of the mountain bikes made access to the town centre much easier.

"The officers were able to avoid traffic congestion and were even cheered by members of the public who were pleased to see them. In fact they were welcomed by everyone they met - apart from the person they arrested."

PCs Rogers and Clarke covered 35 miles during a busy end to the working week.

They also dealt with a road traffic collision, which they were able to get to quickly, despite traffic congestion.
