Pensioner airlifted after impaling herself on table

An elderly woman had to be airlifted to hospital after she fell from her bed and impaled herself on a table.

The Kent Air Ambulance was called to High Street, Rainham, shortly before 8am this morning to assist in the rescue of the woman.

A crew from Medway fire station was called to the scene to help using specialist cutting equipment. Rainham firefighters also attended.

Paramedics managed to free the woman and she was taken by ambulance to a recreation ground in Wakeley Road where she was carried on to the air ambulance shortly after 10am.

It is thought she has been flown to a hospital in London for specialist treatment.
