Police have sealed off a section of central Faversham after a crash near a zebra crossing this morning.

A man in his 70s was struck by a dark coloured Vauxhall Corsa at Forbes Road where it meets Athelstan Road.

The Kent Air Ambulance landed on the Abbey School playing fields, but it is not yet known whether anyone was airlifted away.

Eyewitness and ex-KM Group journalist Jan Thom says a grey saloon remained on the zebra crossing while police investigated the scene.

She said: "It was obviously very serious. There were a lot of police there and they blocked off a large area and were diverting traffic."

Police say the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and the road was closed for serveral hours while the accident is investigated.

Witnesses who haven't yet spoken to the police are asked to call 01622 798538.
