Where can I escape Christmas in Kent?

Christmas can be a very enjoyable time for many people.

But the lead up to it can be very lengthy, making some of the traditions like festive adverts seem a bit tiresome by the time the big day comes.

Here are some places to go if you want to escape the Xmas hype.

1) Have breakfast with deer

This weekend there will be an opportunity for people to feed breakfast to Knole's wild deer. During the winter months the herd can find it difficult to source food themselves and depends on keepers to be fed. And you are invited to join the team for a morning feeding session at Knole House, Sevenoaks. The cost is £7.50, which includes a hot drink. For more information call 0344 249 1895.

2) Really Wild Coast exhibition

This exhibition runs daily from 11am until 3pm until Sunday, December 31. It's held at the Samphire Hoe Education Shelter and allows people to take a walk from Folkestone to Samphire Hoe. Do make sure you're walking when the tide is falling and you can complete the walk in daylight. Along the way you'll see a prehistoric-looking forest as well as fossils and many more interesting places. For more information call 01304 225649.

3) Let football fever take over

With fixtures like Arsenal and Newcastle and Chelsea and Southampton, any football fan will be set for their fix of the footie this weekend. Locally Gillingham will be playing against Bristol Rovers in the League 1 match which kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, December 16. And Maidstone United will be playing away on the same day to Torquay United in the FA Trophy.

Picking up right where ‘The Force Awakens’ left off, ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ finds Rey, after finally discovering Luke Skywalker, beginning her training in the ways of the Force. The screenings will take place in most cinemas across the county.

5) Maidstone Library Archives

If you've fallen behind on the work that needed to be done before the New Year then you'll probably be looking for somewhere nice and quiet. You can rest assured that you'll be able to concentrate there and get your to do list cleared before the holidays are over.
