Police are hunting two men who may be armed after a suspected
shooting in Gillingham.

Three men were injured with suspected gunshot wounds after the
incident at the Railway Hand Car Wash in Railway Street, next to
the station, at 12.30pm.

One man suffered what is believed to be a serious gunshot wound
to his leg and was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

The other two had minor injuries. None of the men's conditions
are life-threatening.

A police helicopter has been hovering over Gillingham for more
than two hours this afternoon.

It is thought to be looking for two men who were in the area at
the time of the incident. Witnesses said they were on a
motorbike.

It was still hovering over the town at 3.40pm. Armed officers
were also at the scene.

Meanwhile, armed police were seen outside a block of flats in
Hards Town, Chatham at around 4.45pm today.

One resident said he'd been unable to get into his town centre
flat for over an hour.

Six police cars were at the scene, together with at least four
armed police, and it's believed to be connected to the
shooting.

The forecourt belonging to Railway Hand Car Wash, Barclay
Car Sales and the Truly Scrumptious snack bar was cordoned off as
police interviewed witnesses.

It is understood the men were all known to each
other.

Police have been door-to-door at a nearby industrial estate
asking if businesses have CCTV they can analyse.

Taxi driver Mike Smith, 71, said: "The old bill has been flying
everywhere. I saw a dog van race past me and lots of police
cars.

"No-one really knows what's going on."

Witnesses should call Kent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers
anonymously on 0800 555111.
