Colyer was on remand at Elmley prison when he died

An inmate at an Isle of Sheppey prison has been found dead ahead of his trial, it has emerged.

Andrew Colyer, 50, was facing child abuse image charges when he was found unconscious in his cell at HMP Elmley.

Prison staff attempted to resuscitate Colyer, from Tunbridge Wells, but he was pronounced dead in the early hours of Sunday, October 28.

An inquest was opened and adjourned and a cause of death is yet to be established.

A HM Prison Service spokesman said: "As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
