Met office issues rain weather warning for Kent

The mini heatwave which made a flying visit to Kent at the weekend will soon be washed away with rain and possibly hailstones, according to the latest weather warning.

A yellow alert has been issued by the Met Office, which is advising people to be aware of the potential hazards.

Heavy and thundery showers will arrive at around 1pm this afternoon, with forecasters predicting a risk of hail into the evening.

The downpours were initially expected to last until about 9pm, but the weather warning has since been extended to 6am tomorrow.

The Met Office has also warned residents to be aware of the risk of potential local flooding.

The chief forecaster said: "Warm, moist air from the continent will be made more unstable by a system coming over it from the Atlantic, bringing the risk of 20 mm rainfall or more in an hour and 50 mm in a few hours.

"Many areas will miss the showers and storms, but where they do occur expect localised flooding and hail, whilst lightning strikes could disrupt power supplies."
