Street attack witness sought

POLICE in Thanet want to speak to a motorist who went to the aid of a man being attacked in Broadstairs. The 46-year-old victim suffered serious injuries in the assault on Saturday evening.

The incident happened after he got off a train and walked under the railway bridge in the high street. Three men standing nearby called him a name and he asked them not to do it again.

The men surrounded him and one kicked a suitcase he was carrying before another hit him. A passing motorist stopped and offered him a lift.

As he was loading his case into the car, the men hit him again and he fell to the floor. He suffered cuts, a broken tooth and needed nine stitches to a lip injury. Two doormen from as nearby pub came to help and the suspects ran away.

The suspects are all white and aged in their late teens to early twenties. One had short, curly blonde hair and wore a blue sweater.

Another had cropped dark brown hair, facial stubble, was tanned and thin and wore a white sweater and grey tracksuit bottoms. The third had mousy hair and wore a blue jacket.

DS Ken Elmes is keen to hear from the passing motorist and anyone else who witnessed the attack. DS Elmes can be contacted on (01843) 222194.
