Met Office issues yellow weather warning for snow for Kent

There are fears the Beast from the East is due to return, but will it be more of a pussycat?

The Met Office has today issued a yellow weather warning for snow in Kent over the weekend.

Forecasters say between 12.05am and 11.55pm on Sunday we can expect up to 5cm in places.

It comes as a cold weather alert was sent out yesterday warning of a chilly period to come.

And it is all down to a weather pattern blowing high pressure over from Scandinavia but is not expected to be as bad as the showers earlier this month.

A spokesman for the the Met Office said: "High pressure over Scandinavia will feed a very cold easterly airstream across the country during this weekend.

"As this air crosses the North Sea snow showers will form on Sunday, and could well merge into convergence lines producing 2-5cms of snow in places.

"This is most likely near the Thames estuary and the Wash, and these snow showers could then spread westwards."
