Panto season has arrived, so here is the run down of
who to boo and who to cheer this year.

ASSEMBLY HALL THEATRE, TUNBRIDGE WELLS

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS

In her first pantomime since the 1970s, Janine Duvitski swaps
Benidorm for the witch’s lair, starring as the Wicked Queen. The
former One Foot in the Grave actress is joined by Chris Pizzey as
Muddles, who is best known as Mr Stephen from the Basil Brush Show.
Playing Nursie is Nick Wilton, market inspector Mr Lister from
EastEnders. Jenny Jones from children’s show Hi-5 on CITV plays
Snow White.

CINDERELLA

The nation wept when Heather Trott met an untimely end in
EastEnders but actress Cheryl Fergison will bring back the smiles
as the Fairy Godmother. Also starring is Britain’s Got Talent
impressionist Paul Burling as Buttons.

From lads mag pin-up to Loose Women panellist, Jennifer
Ellison’s varied career sees her become the boy who never grew up
this Christmas. Joining her is Ace Bhatti – EastEnders’ evil Dr
Yusef Khan as Captain Hook and Balamory’s PC Plum Andrew Agnew as
Smee. CBBC presenter Gemma Hunt takes the roll of Tinker Bell.

DICKENS WORLD, CHATHAM

DICK WHITTINGTON

Written by former Milky Bar Kid Robbie Humphries, this tale of
rags to riches sees Kent’s former EastEnders and Birds of a Feather
actor Max Couch stepping into his high heels and bloomers for the
role of Dame Sarah, the Cook. It is performed by the cast of
Lucinda Ryan Productions, who have put on the pantomime at the
attraction’s Brittania Theatre for a number of years.

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS

The local cast is headed by Thanet’s own Mandy Winters, who
swaps her country music guitar for a glittering wand as Fairy
Goodbody. Kent actress Jane Danes takes on the role of the wicked
Queen Evilina and Ramsgate favourite Frank Tucker returns as the
lovable Dame, Nurse Dimplebottom.

Dancing on Ice finalist Chloe Madeley aims to impress parents
Richard and Judy as Cinderella. Appearing as Dandini is Danny
Young, who was Warren Baldwin in Coronation Street and was also on
Dancing on Ice. Chris Edgerley from CITV’s Hi-5 is Buttons.

SLEEPING BEAUTY

One of the original reality show stars, Gareth Gates’ road to
becoming runner-up on Pop Idol is still remembered fondly and he
takes to the stage as the Prince. The Unchained Melody singer is
joined by another singing hero, Toyah Willcox, who returns to the
Marlowe for her seventh time, as the Wicked Fairy. The high
priestess of punk does battle with Katrina Bryan as the Good Fairy,
known to children as the star of CBeebies’ Nina And The Neurons.
Direct from playing the lead role in Legally Blonde alongside panto
star Gareth Gates, West End actress Faye Brookes plays Sleeping
Beauty. Funnyman Ben Roddy is the Dame and Kent-born comedian Lloyd
Hollett is the storyteller.

ALADDIN

A leopard never changes his spots and EastEnders hardman Steve
McFadden will be putting plenty of his Phil Mitchell charm into his
panto role as Abaneezer the Geezer. His take on the wicked Abanazar
has been dreamed up with the help of his friend and co-star Matt
Slack, who plays Wishee Washee. Look out for the giant mechanical
genie.

ALADDIN

A boy band bad boy turned born again Christian, heavily tattooed
pop star Shane Lynch takes the role of villain Abanazar. The
Boyzone star is joined by ex-Emmerdale and Where the Heart Is actor
Tony Haygarth and Andrew Stone from Pineapple Dance Studios, who
appeared on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK

The cast includes Mike James as Simple Simon after his star turn
as Josh the Jester in last year’s Sleeping Beauty. Kraig Thornber
will again be putting on a dress to play Dame Trot. Maya Grant is
Princess Tamara and Richard Morse as the Giant’s henchman
Fleshcreep.
