Two police officers hurt in road incident in Tunbridge Wells

A man has been charged with assaulting two police officers in an incident in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday lunchtime.

John Leigh, 29, of Salomons Road, Tunbridge Wells, will appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court on Monday accused of causing actual bodily harm.

He's also been charged with assaulting a man walking in Monson Road where the disturbance happened.

Both officers were taken to hospital where one remains today. The other man was treated at the scene by ambulance staff but did not need to go to hospital.

Tunbridge Wells district commander, Chief Inspector Dave Pate, said: 'I would like to thank those members of the public who stopped and helped the officers following this incident. Our thoughts are with the officers as they recover from their injuries.'

Police had been called to the incident near Prezzo restaurant and were allegedly injured trying to make an arrest. Witnesses suggested one of the officer had been knocked unconsious.
