Two swimming pools at the £17million Stour Centre in Ashford have been closed because of cracks in the tiles.

The leisure pool, which has flume rides and a wave machine, was drained on Tuesday morning and will be closed for the rest of the week while the fault in the tiling is investigated.

The centre in Station Approach, Ashford has announced the learner pool will be closed for the same period but the main pool and other facilities will be open as normal.

The closures mean there will be no swimming sessions for toddlers or over 50s groups until after March 5.

The leisure centre, which was first opened in 1975, underwent a major refurbishment and expansion before being unveiled in 2007.

Ashford Leisure Trust, which manages the centre, said information about the re-opening of the pools would be posted on its website as soon as it was available.
