University of Kent shortlisted in Guardian's University Awards for KMTV collaboration

The University of Kent has been shortlisted in the Guardian's University Awards for its work with KMTV.

The UK’s first university-led local television station launched last July and is dedicated to bringing viewers all the news from the county.

It was entered in the 'business collaboration' category and describes the station as a way to "equip students for professional success while also driving localism with a quality community news service".

Denise Everitt, the University’s senior deputy vice-chancellor and chief operating officer, said: "It is very pleasing to be shortlisted for this award because KMTV is a unique collaboration that brings great employability benefit to our students and also provides a valuable service for the community.

"Working with the KM Group, with its 200-year history of providing news coverage in Kent, also provides a unique opportunity to engage with our local community and showcase our activities."

Editorial director at the KM Media Group, Ian Carter, said: "We are delighted to see KMTV nominated for a national award.

"We have a long-standing relationship with the University of Kent and the partnership has really helped KMTV establish itself so quickly."

The winners will be announced in a ceremony next month.

You can watch KMTV's flagship programme Kent Tonight every weekday evening from 5.30pm on Freeview channel 7, Virgin Media channel 159 and online here.
