Emergency services were called to the scene at 3.10pm on Saturday following reports that a silver Vauxhall Astra car, travelling towards Maidstone on the A274, had left the road, hit a brick wall and then collided with two other vehicles.

The two other vehicles involved were another silver Vauxhall Astra and a silver Mercedes S500 saloon.

A 78-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.

The 77-year-old driver, who had to be cut free from the car by fire crews, is now in a stable condition at Kings College Hospital, London, after being flown there by air ambulance.

A woman aged 66 who was driving the Mercedes suffered arm injuries and has been treated in hospital. The 45-year-old man who was driving the second silver Vauxhall Astra escaped unhurt.

The road was closed while officers from the police Serious Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene and diversions were set up through Langley Heath village. The road was re-opened at 9pm.

Investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have seen the silver Vauxhall Astra in the Sutton Valence area around 3pm.
