Woman trapped in M25 crash wreckage after driver runs off

A driver left the scene after his car overturned on the M25 in Kent leaving his trapped passenger inside the vehicle.

According to emergency services the driver, understood to be male, ran from the scene after the car flipped on the M25, trapping his female passenger.

Firefighters from Dartford fire station were called to the crash at around 1pm Monday. They used special air bags to raise the car and free the woman who was taken to hospital.

Police also attended the scene and a police helicopter is also understood to have been used in the emergency operation and the hunt for the driver.

The incident happened on the clockwise section between junctions four (Orpington) and five (for the M26) and road closures led to tailbacks.

No further information is yet available about whether police have traced the driver.
