Work starts at old paper mill site

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

Mr Darbyshire said: "We're delighted to be starting work on our
new store for Sittingbourne.

"Before too long we will be looking to recruit new staff for the
store and we will be taking steps to let people know how they can
apply."

The planning application also sought outline planning permission
for the remainder of the scheme for 150 homes to the north west of
the mill site plus leisure facilities and heritage building at the
wharf site.

The Spirit of Sittingbourne was announced as Swale council's
preferred development partner last year to take forward plans to
regenerate the town centre.

A contract between Swale and the Spirit of Sittingbourne
Consortium, which outlines what will be built in the forthcoming
years, has been signed.

The group is made up of Essential Land, property developer
Cathedral Group and financial fund managers Alyton.

Plans include a cinema, an arena, a new Gateway civic centre and
leisure, retail and residential development.

Cllr Bowles said: "Hopefully we will have good news in the not
too distant future for the development agreement with the Spirit of
Sittingbourne for the next development. Sittingbourne and Swale are
on the up."
