A memorial service has taken place in Kent today for sailors who lost their lives when their ship came under attack by the Germans during the Second World War.

Around 180 people gathered in Chatham to pay tribute to the 186 crewman and their captain who died on board HMS Jervis Bay - on this day in 1940.

The lightly-armed merchant cruiser took the full force of a surprise German attack as she escorted a supplies convoy from Canada to the UK.
