Young man hurt in main road crash

A 20 year-old man was airlifted to hospital after a collision between a car and van on the A28 in Kent on Tuesday.

The accident happened just before 3pm and led to the closure of the Ashford Road at the junction with Shalmsford Street at Chartham, near Canterbury, for about one hour.

The victim was taken to the William Harvey Hospital with a neck injury, which is not thought to be life-threatening.

Two other people were also injured and taken to the same hospital by ambulance.

The accident follows two fatalities in as many weeks on the road.

Earlier this month St Anselm's School pupil Andrew Key, 16, died after being hit by a car while walking along the A28 at Thanington.

Last Wednesday a 32 year-old motorcyclist from Ashford was killed after colliding with another motorbike on the same road between Chartham and Thanington.
