Gills manager Martin Allen has dismissed speculation he is heading for Sheffield United.

Allen (pictured) emerged as the bookies favourite to take over at Bramall Lane after the Yorkshire club parted company with manager Danny Wilson.

United are sitting fifth in League 1.

And the Gills boss, who has another year left on his contract, said: “I will be at Priestfield next season. I have an agreement with (Gills chairman) Mr Scally that if a Premier League club come in then I will go, nobody can stop me, obvious.

“I promised him (Mr Scally) last summer when I sat in his office that I would do my job at Priestfield.

“I have walked away (from jobs) on several occasions and gone for the money and once I needed to have a holiday and I needed a break. I was exhausted and I was drained of all my energy and that’s the only reason I left Brentford.

“Here (at Gillingham) I am fit and I am well and I like working with Mr Scally. I feel this can go forward and we can improve on and off the pitch.

“Let’s be honest. Speculation is always going to be there. If you are good at your job there is going to be speculation. I am good at my job.

“What has happened here, with my staff, the players, the supporters and the backing of Mr Scally has just been waiting to happen. I have planned pre-season, I have done the holiday (to Benidorm) and I am working all hours to get players in for next season so we can be competetive again and I mean proper competitive.”
