Gillingham boss Martin Allen is already facing a new challenge.

Allen knows he needs additions to his squad ahead of the League 1 season which starts on August 3 and says getting that right is vital.

He said: "If we get the player recruitment right, we will challenge again. I have read enough books by Sir Alex Ferguson to know that as soon as you have done it (won the title), you have to get on to the next one.

"I thought about that even on Saturday night: ‘Get your head down, have a good time tonight, chill out on Sunday but come Monday morning, get back on it’.

"I have enjoyed looking at the pictures from last weekend and went out jogging to re-live the special day.

"Lots of people around the stadium, while I was out jogging, have been kind to me and that’s nice.

"But there is no chance of me stepping back and having a few days off. We are now looking at possible players. I have been putting meetings in place, chatting to people and working through lists. Once you have gone through the lists, if there are people you like, you find out what they are like.

"I know most people in most clubs and I can find out what people’s characters are like."
