Gillingham boss Martin Allen is hoping that out-of-contract duo Andy Frampton and Deon Burton sign new deals with the club.

Allen believes Frampton and Burton made his job a lot easier during their title-winning campaign and wants the pair to commit themselves for another season as the Gills prepare to embark on a challenge in League 1.

Allen said: “On and off the field, both of them were fantastic. It makes managing it a lot easier when you have people like that willing to go the extra yard and helping younger people when they are not playing.

“I had a decision to make, whether to give them another year and whether they can maintain it and I believe they both can.”

Frampton, 33, played 32 games for the Gills in a variety of positions last season.

Allen said: “Andrew has played left-midfield, left-back and the holding role and I know he can play on the left of a four, because he did that for me at Brentford.

Former Premier League and Jamaican international striker Burton showed he hadn’t lost his eye for goal, after the 36-year-old netted 13 times – just three goals behind leading scorer Danny Kedwell.

Allen added: “He can’t train every day, of course, we know that. But when he plays, Deon has won us games."
