The Gillingham away support was bolstered by an influx of first team players at Burton.

Those not involved on Saturday went to cheer the young Gills on and sat among the visiting fans at Burton’s Pirlelli Stadium.

"There is a good connection between the fans and the players and I hope the club is happy," said boss Martin Allen.

"It has been a good 11 months we have had together and it is now my challenge, with the backing of the boss (Paul Scally), to go again.

"We had all the subs against Wimbledon plus six youth players making their debut. If you can’t be inspired by that as a supporter then you have got a screw loose.

"It was a fantastic performance from our lads and I can’t thank them enough, We had the whole squad there and how special is that?"

"Everyone plays their part, everyone has a role to play and we have had the backing and support since day one, even when it wasn’t great at times.

"The supporters stayed with the team and the players responded, the staff don’t panic and the chairman doesn’t panic and get on the phone. He just lets me get on with it and get onto the next game."

The Gills were clapped onto the pitch by Burton’s players and fans before the game and at the end and Allen was thrilled by the home backing as well.

"From everyone at Gillingham Football Club, the players and the supporters and staff, a big thank you for the respect that I thought Burton’s footballers, their staff and supporters gave all of us.

"It was fantastic the way they clapped our players onto the pitch and at the end. I have to say a massive well done to them and from all of us I hope they do well in the play-offs and we meet them again next season.
