Gillingham will kick off their League 1 campaign with a home game against Colchester United.

The Gills begin their season on Saturday, August 3 and the following weekend they take on relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

The festive campaign sees Martin Allen’s men face Leyton Orient at Priestfield on Boxing Day and Walsall at home three days later.

Next season finishes on Saturday, May 3, with a home game against Shrewsbury Town.

Other big games for the diary include visits from Swindon (January 18), Sheffield United (February 15), Coventry (March 11).

There are five evening games scheduled, with the first coming on October 22, with a home game against Allen’s former team Notts County. The Gills then travel to the County Ground for a midweek fixture at the end of January.

Stevenage and Coventry also visit Priestfield in midweek, while the Gills visit another of Allen’s past clubs, in MK Dons, on Tuesday, March 25.

Gillingham are at home to Bristol City in the first round of the Capital One Cup, with that game taking place on the week commencing August 5.

The first round of the FA Cup takes place on Saturday, November 9, with a gap in Gills’ calendar for round two on December 7.
