Chairman Paul Scally was proud to see so many youngsters represent Gillingham on Saturday and proud of the backing from the fans.

Mr Scally (pictured with manager Martin Allen) said: "I haven’t really seen a lot of these lads because I haven’t watched many of the youth games and to see them making their debuts, six of them, infront of 1,500 travelling fans, everyone would have left the ground feeling proud.

"It was a great opportunity for the youngsters and they didn’t let themselves down. They were absolutely magnificent.

"I am proud of the players and proud of the lads who brought the players through. It was a great day for the club because if that’s the future then there is a lot to look forward to."

Mr Scally was pleased with the way the Gills fans conducted themselves. There were no arrests and no ejections.

"The fans were absolutely unbelievable," he said. "It was just wonderful and they are a credit to the football club and themselves."
