Jimmy Adams and Rob Key are waiting to hear from Kent officials about whether they can hold an overseas warm-weather pre-season training camp early next year.

The Kent coach and his returning captain met with Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford this week to discuss plans for early 2014, with the Kent schedule for next season revealed for the first time on Tuesday. Adams said: “We are in the process of going through some things this week, now that the fixtures are out.”

Kent’s first action of the new season sees them take on Loughborough MCCU on April 7 but Adams hopes the squad will be able to prepare for the fixture in warmer climes than in 2013, when they remained in the UK and battled with rain, snow and freezing temperatures.

He said: “We would like to get away somewhere for pre-season and we have asked for it. We don’t mind where, so long as it is warm and there is consistent sun and appropriate facilities.

“We want to give ourselves the best chance and best preparation possible for next season. I’m not sure whether it will be possible, I hope so, it’s up to the club to decide.”

Mr Clifford added: “We are looking at options, that is all. (Financially) things are not perhaps as tight as they previously have been but we must remain sensible and strategic.”

Adams said: “We hope a lot of plans for pre-season will be sorted this week.

“We are in the process of going through the fixtures this week. We need to get plans in place to be implemented over the course of the whole season.”
