Addicks stick to their guns over Bent price

CHARLTON chief executive Peter Varney has vowed the club will stick to their £17million valuation of leading scorer Darren Bent.

The 23-year-old England international rejected West Ham's overtures after the two clubs agreed a £16million fee with £1million-rated midfielder Hayden Mullins moving to The Valley as part of the deal.

West Ham offered Bent a five-year contract worth £75,000-a-week and the player looked set to move until the deal collapsed 24 hours later.

Tottenham followed up with a £12million bid plus two players, one believed to be former Addick Danny Murphy, which was rejected out of hand.

Mr Varney insisted: "Until someone meets our valuation, then Darren Bent remains a Charlton player. We have received no other offers.

"We look forward to welcoming back Darren for pre-season training ready for the Championship season."
