Gary Borrowdale makes the substitutes' bench for Gills' League 1 clash with Crawley

Defender Gary Borrowdale was named on the bench against Crawley for the first time since joining Gills as he continues to work towards match fitness.

The former Crystal Palace left-back moved to Priestfield from Margate at the end of January in a bid to resurrect his Football League career.

Boss Peter Taylor said: “He’s nowhere near 90-minute fit, nowhere near it. He’s probably 35-minute fit at the minute.

“The reason I put him on there was simply because, when Michael Harriman plays, he’s another person who can go and play left-back if we need it.

“We had to have that cover and if you have your seven subs, surely one of them can be a left-back.”
