Donervon Daniels insists his stay at Gillingham won’t be a quiet one.

The 20-year-old central defender scored on his home debut in Gills’ 3-2 win over Stevenage at Priestfield on Tuesday night.

And he’s prepared to help lead the Gills to further success from the back.

Daniels said: “The gaffer told me he liked the fact that I was a leader and that I can control players. I believe I am that type of player and that it’s important.

“Once you are controlling people, everyone knows what they are doing and I think it is good. The skip (Adam Barrett) is like me, he likes to control people and the partnership, I thought, was good.”

Daniels, who trained with the club for the first time on Monday, after joining on loan from West Brom, admitted he has already warned his new team-mates what to expect.

He said: “I let the lads know I like to speak and said that if I go over the top one or two times, just bare with me, because that’s the type of person I am.”

Daniels has signed a deal until January 4.
