Welling bounced back from losing their long unbeaten home record by thrashing pre-season title favourites Forest Green on Tuesday night in the Skrill Premier.

The Wings, beaten for the first time in a league game for more than a year at Park View Road by Kidderminster last time on home soil, let a two-goal lead slip. But they hit back with three goals once Forest Green were reduced to 10 men to run out emphatic winners.

The visitors' lack of discipline cost them dear in the first 20 minutes. They conceded five free-kicks in the first 10 minutes and it was from one such opening that Doug Bergqvist's deflected shot found the net on nine minutes.

Bergqvist was forced off through injury on 17 minutes but within a minute Welling doubled their lead as Loui Fazakerley's cross was fumbled and Loick Pires scored from close-range beyond wrong-footed keeper Sam Russell.

Forest Green pulled a goal back in first half injury time when Anthony Barry's long-range shot had too much movement for keeper Lee Butcher.

Butcher was beaten again just after the hour mark when Forest Green were awarded a penalty. Jack Obersteller was penalised for handball and substitute Yan Klukowski tucked away the spot-kick.

Within three minutes Welling were awarded a spot-kick of their own. Skipper Lee Clarke (pictured) was fouled by Dale Bennett, who was sent-off for denying Clarke a goalscoring opportunity and leading scorer Ross Lafayette tucked away the spot-kick for his fifth goal of the campaign.

Welling never let the 10 men of Forest Green regroup and within three minutes it was 4-2 as Clarke drilled home from inside the area after Russell made a mess of a deflected cross.

Butcher, whose handling was impeccable throughout on a wet evening, produced a fine double save to deny Matthew Barnes-Horner.

With nine minutes left, Welling's Alex Dyer scored the goal of the game, skipping past a midfield challenge before steering home a left-foot finish from inside the area for his first goal in Wings colours.
