Adam Gemili leads the Kent contingent after the initial Great Britain & Northern Ireland teams for this summer's European championships for under-23 athletes were announced on Wednesday morning.

Dartford ace Gemili, 19, the London 2012 100m semi-finalist, is arguably the biggest name in the under-23 squad which will travel to Tampere, Finland, from July 11-14 and will be seeking three gold medals.

Last year's World junior champion over 100m will compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.

Gemili's Blackheath & Bromley AC team-mate Lorraine Ugen is also in the GB team in the long jump but there is no place for defending 400m hurdles champion Jack Green, from Hythe, who has endured a stop-start season so far.

A second swathe of call-ups to the squads will be named at the start of July.

Meanwhile the initial squad for the European Junior Championships in Rieti, Italy, which runs from July 18-21, includes sprint ace Dina Asher-Smith from Orpington and Canterbury distance star Rebecca Weston.

B&B athlete Asher-Smith, 17, is the fastest in Europe over 100m in the under-20 age-group this year and will also take on the 200m and 4x100m relay.

Weston, the 18-year-old Invicta East Kent AC ace won the under-20 3,000m at the trials at Bedford last weekend and has been named as one of two British entrants in the 5,000m in Italy.
