Referee Andy D'Urso has called off the League 1 game between Gillingham and Stevenage

Gillingham’s game at Stevenage has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The New Year’s Day match was due to kick off at 3pm but a decision was taken at around 12.30pm by referee Andy D’Urso that the Stevenage pitch was unplayable.

Gillingham were facing a busy schedule, with two days in three days, so the postponement could come as welcome relief to manager Peter Taylor, whose side face promotion-chasers Wolves on Friday night.

But for many Gills fans it has proved to be a frustrating start to 2014, with a number travelling to the game on train, with no way of getting a refund.

A new date for the match will be announced shortly.

Elsewhere, the wet weather has also led to the postponement of the Skrill Premier clash between Welling United and Dartford at Park View Road,
