Defender Devante McKain netted for Gillingham against his former club in a friendly at Maidenhead on Tuesday night.

The Gills team, which was mixture of youth and development players, lost the match at York Road 4-2.

Gills boss Martin Allen also used the match to give young first team defender Callum Davies extra minutes on the pitch.

But it was Maidenhead who struck first in the friendly match, with striker Richard Pacquette firing home a cross.

The Gills almost levelled soon after, with 10 minutes played, when Ashley Miller had a shot cleared off the line, with the goalkeeper already beaten.

Shortly afterwards United doubled their advantage, when Harry Pritchard’s shot decided Gills keeper Tom Gowans. A third was headed home by Matt Ruby.

Gillingham stepped it up after the break and McKain - whose signing for the Gills from United in November last season led to Tuesday’s friendly - crashed home a shot on the volley.

Kane Haysman curled home Gillingham’s second goal with five minutes remaining, but the home side ended hopes of a fightback, as Jonathan Hippolyte scored on the break in the dying seconds.
