CHARLTON Youth Academy manager Steve Gritt has urged the club's supporters to turn out in force to support the club's under-18s as they bid to overcome Sunderland tonight at The Valley and reach the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

In their previous two home ties against Sheffield United and Swindon, the matches attracted crowds of 1,369 and 1,459 respectively.

On both occasions the team were acclaimed with standing ovations at the final whistle.

"I would love to see a crowd of more than 2,000 to cheer the lads on because they deserve it," said Gritt.

"They've played some terrific football to get this far and the crowds have not been slow in showing their appreciation."

Charlton reached the Youth Cup final in 1987 when they lost the two-legged final to Coventry.

In 2003, they reached the semi-finals. Losing 3-1 to Manchester United after a crowd of 9,074 turned up at The Valley to see the first leg.

Tonight's tie kicks off at 7pm and admission has been priced at £3 adults and £1 concessions. Only the lower west stand will be open and supporters can pay cash at the turnstiles on the night.
