There were over 300 finishers in the Medway 10k at Gillingham on Sunday morning with Medway and Maidstone’s James Hogg heading the field in 35min52sec.

The University of Kent student was a comfortable winner from M40 masters Damian Coleman (Deal Triathletes, 36:16) and Stuart Rankin (Army, 36:53).

Stephen Throssell (Larkfield, 38:22) was the next local runner in fourth place.

Colin Whitely (M40 Istead and Ifield Harriers, 41:15) was pleased to set a

personal best in windy conditions on this undulating, multi-terrain course.

Local club runners in the top 20 were Chris Rampling (Maidstone Harriers,

41:39); Wesley Williams (M50 Istead and Ifield, 41:53); Mike Poppy (M45 Sittingbourne, 42:03); Mick Spurr (M45 Gravesend, 42:34) and the women’s race winner Deborah Hope (W35 Medway and Maidstone, 43:50).

Hope was around 250m clear of the runner-up Lucy Hale (W35 University of Kent, 45:03) with W40 Charlotte Esposto (unattached, 46:36) completing the podium places. Sarah Kenyon (W45 M&M, 49:59) finished eighth overall.

The Cliffe Woods 10k - organised by Cerebral Palsey Care since 1982 - was a very popular event on the Kent road race calendar but following the charity’s move to Chatham the race was promoted this year by Nice Work as part of the Medway Festival of Sport with support from Medway Council.
