Danny Hollands could be handed his first Gillingham start when Leyton Orient visit Priestfield in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.

The midfielder joined the Gills last Thursday, signing on loan from Championship Charlton until January 4.

He had to make do with a substitute appearance in the 1-1 draw with Bristol City at the weekend but is sure to be heavily involved for the Gills until his loan deal expires.

Gills boss Martin Allen said: “He has been there, seen it and done it at this level but there is no way I could change that team after the performance at Swindon (last week). He will be involved on Tuesday night.”

Hollands, 27, has experience playing at the top end of League 1 and was an integral part of the Charlton team which romped to the 2011/12 title, scoring eight goals.

Last season he played 10 games for Swindon as they challenged at the top end of the same division. His only appearance for Charlton this season came in their 4-0 Capital One Cup win over Oxford.
