HOPES of the Medway-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey squad repeating last year's grand slam were dashed over the weekend.

A defeat at Peterborough on Saturday means the Mos cannot now win the ENIHL Cup.

And although they recovered to beat Streatham Redskins 5-3 on Sunday, results elsewhere prevented them from qualifying for the final of the ENIHL play-offs.

Second period goals from Stuart Low and Kev Lake kept the Islanders in the hunt at 3-2 on Saturday, but Peterborough responded with another couple in the final period to run out 5-2 winners.

The following day the Mos returned to Gillingham's Ice Bowl for the first time in five games, and took a 3-1 first period lead with strikes from Ryan Giles, AJ Smith and Jordy Black.

The Redskins hit back in the second period, but Black restored the two goal lead with his second of the game in the third. The visitors then pulled another goal back, but Peter Carey's strike sealed the victory.

However, play-off leaders Haringey confirmed their place in the final after they continued their 100 per cent record with a 5-2 win at Oxford.
