Adebayo Akinfenwa is ready to play the waiting game after revealing interest from other clubs for next season.

The big striker wants to stay at Gills but his one-year deal runs out in the summer and the club are keeping all contract talks on hold.

Akinfenwa said: “I feel a bit blessed that I am having people contact me about next season.

“There’s many footballers who haven’t got a club and won’t have a club next season, so I am in a nice position at the moment where clubs are asking what I’m doing.

“I’m enjoying myself at Gillingham and if Gillingham want me, I’ll stay.

“I get on with the fans and the chairman but I did hear that no contracts will get put out until Gillingham know what league they’re in.

“As a football player, you’ve got to start looking for the future as I’ve got a family and that but ideally I’d like to stay.

“It’s up to the powers that be. I guess they will say ‘let’s get safe first’ and the contracts can then start getting handed out."
