Cody McDonald pulled out of Saturday’s game against Crawley just an hour before kick-off.

McDonald was due to start the match, as he had in the previous game against Leyton Orient but a stomach bug meant Gills boss Martin Allen had to make a hasty change to his team.

Allen said: “Cody had been sharp in training and was ready to start and to play again. That was another blow.

“We did all the team play on Friday and had a busy day on the training pitch. Cody was playing but ended up spending the afternoon on the team bus poorly.”

McDonald is likely to be fit for this weekend’s game against Coventry.

That game takes place on Sunday and it gives Leon Legge extra time to recover, after suffering a injury on Saturday.

Legge tweeted: “Back is in bits, gunna be sore tomorrow (Sunday).”
