Kent Cricket spinner Adam Riley, called into England Performance Programme, says signing new deal at Kent was an easy decision

Adam Riley said signing a new contract at the club was a ‘no brainer’ as he wants to be part of ‘the good thing we’ve got going at Kent.’

The 22-year-old spinner claimed the 48th LV= County Championship Division 2 scalp of the season against Gloucestershire on Tuesday and claimed the performances by both him and other academy graduates gave Kent fans cause for optimism over the next few years.

He said: “A lot of the youngsters have been given a chance and stepped up.

“This year’s really been the year the youngsters have stepped up. Daniel Bell-Drummond is almost at 1,000 Championship runs, I’ve taken wickets and Sam Billings with his one-day stuff are the main ones, but there are others too.

“We are starting to contribute which is encouraging for the supporters who are delighted that these homegrown Kent players are contributing to the club going forward.”

He added: “Signing a new contract is a no-brainer. I wanted to extend my contract here and continue my development and enjoy what’s going on here.

“We’ve got a good thing going here, a Kent thing, rather than buying in from outside. This core homegrown group is something I want to be a part of and that’s why I’ve committed my future to Kent by signing a new contract.

“We’ve grown up playing together, we’re all good friends and hopefully that will continue in the future for the first-team.”

On Wednesday Riley and teammate Sam Billings were named in the England Performance Programme squad for a training camp at Loughborough and a three-week trip to Sri Lanka.
