Nick Treadwell scored a last-minute winner as Whitstable started the Ryman League Division 1 South season with a 3-2 win at home to Walton & Hersham.

In a topsy-turvy first half, the teams shared four goals. Aaron James twice put through his own net for Walton while Tom Loynes and Treadwell scored in between as Whitstable led 2-1 at one stage.

The teams looked set to share the spoils until Treadwell scored in the 90th minute.

Greg Andrews' first-half goal was enough for Ramsgate to lose 1-0 at newly-promoted Whyteleafe on their new 3G pitch while Hythe also went down 1-0, Greg Luer scoring the only goal of the game for Burgess Hill at Reachfields.

Ian Draycott netted with two minutes remaining to hand Folkestone a 1-1 draw at Three Bridges, for whom Nigel Brake had converted a 34th-minute spot-kick while Herne Bay returned from Carshalton with a creditable goalless draw.

Faversham defeated Worthing 2-1. After falling behind to an early penalty, Dave Botterill quickly levelled before Wayne Wilson scored the winner in the 89th minute.

Matt Wyatt's tenure as sole boss of Sittingbourne got off to an excellent start with a 3-0 success at Corinthian Casuals.

George Crimmen gave the Brickies a first-half lead before goals at the start and then end of the second half by David Abe wrapped up a 3-0 victory.
