Peter Taylor won’t let Bradford City fans get to him when he takes Gillingham to his old club.

Taylor returns to Valley Parade on Saturday for the first time since leaving Bradford three years ago.

The former England under-21 manager left by mutual consent with injury-hit City in the lower reaches of League 2 and said at the time it was the crowd’s attitude towards him that made up his mind to go.

Asked if he felt he would get a tough time this weekend, Gillingham boss Taylor said: “I might do. You just get on with it. I get a tough deal from most fans.

“I only had a year there and I left them exactly the same position as I took over. No worse, no better. We had tons of injuries that really killed us.

“We honestly thought we were going to have a good season but I had a better team in the stand watching the team play because of the injuries.

"That’s football life. I’m concentrating on Gillingham.”
