Devante McKain, Josh Hare and Aaron Millbank will all be pushing for a place in Peter Taylor's first team at Gillingham

Peter Taylor has challenged the club’s youngest pros to prove they are worth a shot at the first team.

Josh Hare, Aaron Millbank and Devante McKain all agreed one-year deals last week.

McKain ended his season on loan with Bromley but Taylor said: “He appreciated that we had to go for more experience last season but he has a good chance of being a good player if he keeps on working hard and I am sure he will.

“He has all the ability and, like Millbank and Josh and the others, he has the opportunity to come back in pre-season and show me they are better than the other fella, that’s what they have to do.

“I have been impressed with Josh and he has a first class attitude. There are just little bits of his game that he has to improve on.”

*Southern Counties East side Rochester United have announced a pre-season match, at home against a Gillingham XI, on Tuesday, July 15.
