Gills manager Peter Taylor is back in the hunt for defensive cover.

The loan transfer window is open again and Taylor knows exactly where he wants to strengthen ahead of Wednesday night’s League 1 match at home to Sheffield United.

He said: “I am still after another defender and have made my feelings known to the players. I have said to them that’s the area we have to get better at.

“I have gone over the Carlisle DVD and there were too many times when they could have scored. It could have been a totally different story and they are the things I need to think about.

“I owe it to the chairman and the club to make sure that I get us as strong as we can be.”

Scoring goals has not been an issue but Taylor wants to get the balance right. Gills have scored six in their last three games but have conceded just as many.

Taylor said: “You will always get points if you have people that can score a goal.

“But I am looking for perfection and want to make us a little tighter as well."
