Play-off chasing Margate have announced manager Robin Trott is leaving the club in a shock move on Wednesday.

Trott left the Ryman League Premier Division club with immediate effect with former Gravesend player and non-League journeyman Steve McKimm overseeing the final two games of the campaign.

Margate are currently ninth in the table with outside chances of making the play-offs if they can manage to win their final two fixtures against Folkestone Invicta and Harrow Borough.

The Gate have won their last two matches against Heybridge Swifts and Leyton, but a club statement said: "The board were unanimous in their agreement that they do not have the confidence in Robin to deliver a team capable of challenging for a play-off position next season.

"The timing of this decision is designed to allow the board to receive enquiries from perspective new managers and also to speak with existing players which they wish to retain.

"We would like to thank Robin for all his hard work and commitment to the club and wish him every success for his future."
