Weekend local football round-up

A magnificent display saw Ramsgate romp to a 5-0 win over Boreham Wood at Southwood on Saturday and claim the final Ryman League Division 1 South play-off spot.

Sam Jones set the Rams on their way after only four minutes when he netted after good work by Lee Minshull.

Then an astonishing spell saw Jim Ward's side score four times in eight minutes either side of half-time.

Warren Schulz bagged a brace (44 and 50), and his brother Ollie (45) and Dean Hill (52) also scored to elevate Ramsgate to fifth and set up a tough away play-off semi-final at Staines Town.

That result meant Tonbridge Angels - the other Kent side who started the day with play-off hopes - must be content with another season in the same division.

As it happened they lost anyway as a Matt Hill penalty and a Dean Carter strike saw them beaten 2-0 at Carshalton.

A much-changed Margate ended their campaign on an upbeat note as they took all three points at Harrow Borough.

Nick Moir's 54th-minute goal meant managerless Gate leap-frogged Billericay Town to finish in ninth place.

But it was heartbreak for Folkestone Invicta as they were consigned to relegation by Kent rivals Maidstone at the Buzzlines Stadium. Read a match report here >>>

Cray Wanderers will face Metropolitan Police in the Ryman League Division 1 South play-off semi-final at Hayes Lane on Tuesday after a comfortable 2-0 win at Chipstead thanks to strikes in either half from Ross Lover and Ryan Royston.

Meanwhile, a final day victory for Ashford Town at Worthing saw them climb above rivals Sittingbourne to finish eighth in the table.

The Nuts and Bolts had to come from behind after Ben Andrews gave the home side a 47th-minute lead. But come from behind they did - Lee Hockey headed in Mark Lovell's cross to level with 14 minutes left before a Joe Keehan own goal in injury-time completed the turnaround.

The Brickies slipped to ninth as they could only manage a 1-1 home draw with Corinthian-Casuals.

A simple Colin Richmond goal gave the home side the advantage on 14 minutes but it was cancelled out just four minutes later when Joe Dowley put through his own net.

The game erupted eight minutes before the break - an incident which saw both Sittingbourne's Lee Spiller (for the second game in a row) and the visitors' Luke Gay shown straight red cards and Corinthian-Casuals were later reduced to nine men.

Champions Dover Athletic rounded their superb season off in style as a Jon Wallis double and a Shaun Welford strike earned them a 3-0 victory at Walton & Hersham.

A last day 3-2 win for Chatham Town at Burgess Hill Town saw them finish in 18th, while Whitstable Town were beaten by the same scoreline by Whyteleafe at the Belmont to leave them in 14th position.

Ryman League Division 1 North title winners Dartford bowed out with a 1-0 win over Wingate & Finchley at Princes Park.

Brendan Cass scored the only goal midway through the second half but the visitors enjoyed the better of an unspectacular affair and the Darts had Tony Kessell to thank for preserving their lead.
