It's not fun in the sun - but wall-to-wall suits!

The trouble with the property development world's
biggest show on earth is that it's in Cannes.
Some 20,000 gather in this exoptic French riveria town to do
deals and plant seeds at MIPIM.
Kent is quite well represented this year but not as well as in
previous years. The public sector is well down. SEEDA pulled it's
stand, fearful it would get a stream of freedom of information
requests about jollies on the rates.
Every year there are reports about junkets at taxpayers
expense.
I bet there would be none of that if MIPIM was held in
Huddersfield...
It's not that much of a jolly either. People fix up lots of
meetings, there's plenty of walking to conferences and for many
it's hard graft.
You may catch a glimpse of the blue Med if you're lucky and to
be sure the sun is shining. And there are leggy eastern European
girls promoting their areas, but this is no glamorous festival on a
par with the film festival sadly .
Rather than semi-naked stars draped over luxury yachts,
this is mostly wall-to-wall suits. Anywhere that wants to promote
its area - in fierce competition with everywhere else has to be at
MIPIM.
Saying no on puritanical grounds and you can get stuffed in the
race for for inward investment and job.
